Pedro Roquet has a well-equipped materials laboratory which is responsible for material supplier approval, approval of manufacturing processes such as casting, welding, plating and heat-treatment . The deoartment is also responsible for quality control of incoming materials.

These are some of the main test and inspection and facilities available in the laboratory:
Tensile test machine to test material samples
Salt-mist corrosion test chamber for testing corrosion resistance of plated valves, chromed rods of cylinders etc.
Particle counter
Device to measure water content of hydraulic fluids
Digital microscope
Digital microscope
Stereoscopic microscope (especially useful for studying grain structure)
Here are some example results from some of the above facilities:
Cross section of chromed cylinder rod (rejected due to poor machining of rod prior to plating )
Back-to-back chromed rod sample showing base material structure
Material structere, deformations (and defects) in a deep-drawn component. Fatigue crack visible.
Structure of pump bearing
Sintered bronze particle structure in pump bearing
Grain structure in an SG iron casting
Material structure of chromed cylinder rod with micro-hardness tests
Micro-hardness tests on cross-section of a welding test-piece
Cross-section of a test using a new welding-wire with 3 welding passes.
. Porosity in an aluminium casting - due to cooling "shrinkage" and poor riser design
